Çimsa’s Eskişehir Plant to meet 40 percent of its annual energy needs from its own resources
The Waste Heat Recovery Power Generation Facility (WHR), with an installed capacity of 5.5 MWp, implemented at the Eskişehir Plant through the collaboration between Çimsa and Enerjisa Enerji, has become operational. Together with the Solar Power Plant (SPP), which has an installed capacity of 14.2 MWp DC and was commissioned in March 2025, this investment will enable Çimsa’s Eskişehir Plant to meet 40 percent of its annual energy needs from its own resources.
A pioneer in sustainability within Türkiye’s cement industry, Çimsa has added another investment to its efforts to accelerate the energy transition. The Waste Heat Recovery Power Generation Facility (WHR), with an installed capacity of 5.5 MW, has become operational through energy solutions developed under Enerjisa Enerji’s İşimin Enerjisi brand. By recovering the waste heat generated during the plant’s production processes and using it to generate electricity, the facility will increase energy efficiency while also contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions.
Using next-generation waste heat recovery technology, the facility will generate electricity without using water and will meet approximately 25 percent of the Eskişehir Plant’s electricity needs on its own. Together with the Solar Power Plant (SPP), which has an installed capacity of 14.2 MWp DC and was commissioned in March 2025, approximately 40 percent of the plant’s total electricity needs will be met from its own resources. With this investment, the facility is targeted to become the cement plant with the highest renewable energy utilization rate in Türkiye, while reducing energy costs and contributing to carbon reduction targets under the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
“WE MUST LEAD IN SUSTAINABILITY AND TECHNOLOGY TO POSITIVELY DIFFERENTIATE OURSELVES”
Commenting on the matter, Chairman of the Board of Çimsa Umut Zenar, underlined that the company has positioned sustainability as its North Star while progressing towards its future goals and said, “Sustainability is one of the most important elements of today’s economic order. Particularly in our industry, the way to positively differentiate ourselves, stand apart and create value for stakeholders is to lead in sustainability and technology. What matters is not only producing, but doing so responsibly.”
Emphasizing that each of Çimsa’s facilities has its own unique story, Umut Zenar said, “Our Mersin Plant is the only plant in the world capable of producing gray cement, white cement and CAC. In this respect, it is a facility that has earned a place in the global construction materials literature through its production technology. Meanwhile, with the hydrogen technology whose testing we have completed, our Bunol Plant will have the capability to increase the alternative fuel rate in white cement from 30 percent to 50 percent. Mannok, which can be described as a construction materials campus, is a leading supplier to supermarkets and major food processing companies in the United Kingdom, with its experience in the production of cement, cement-based products, insulation materials and recycled plastic packaging. Therefore, each of our facilities has its own story. Through all these investments, we are also writing a strong sustainability story for our Eskişehir Plant. We are working to make Eskişehir the cement plant with the highest renewable energy rate in Türkiye.”
“COLLABORATIONS ARE AMONG THE STRONGEST DRIVING FORCES IN THE ENERGY TRANSITION OF INDUSTRY”
Emphasizing that the energy transition can only gain momentum through strong collaborations, Enerjisa Enerji CEO Murat Pınar said, “To enhance the competitiveness of industry while achieving sustainability targets, energy efficiency, renewable energy and innovative technologies must be considered together. This project, which we have implemented with Çimsa, is an important demonstration of how sustainability targets in industry can be transformed into tangible results through strong collaborations. As Enerjisa Enerji, through our İşimin Enerjisi brand, we offer end-to-end solutions that enable our customers to transform from structures that merely consume energy into ones that manage and produce their own energy more efficiently. By recovering waste heat and returning it to the economy, we contribute both to the more efficient use of resources and to the reduction of carbon emissions. For sustainable development, we value the principle of ‘Partnerships for the Goals’ and continue to accelerate Türkiye’s energy transition through collaborations implemented across different sectors.”
