CİMSA COMMISSIONED THE SOLAR POWER PLANT (SPP) IN BUÑOL, VALENCIA WITH AN INVESTMENT OF 4.2 MILLION EUROS

Çimsa, the global brand of the Sabancı Group, commissioned the solar power plant, which was established with an investment of 4.2 million Euros at the Buñol plant acquired in Valencia, Spain, within the committed timeframe. The plant, which was established as a turnkey project by ID EnergyGroup, will fulfill approximately 18 percent of the energy needs of Çimsa’s Buñol plant.

The plant has 11 thousand solar panels and covers an area of 100 thousand square meters which is the size of 14 football fields.

Çimsa, the global brand of Sabancı Group, commissioned its solar power plant (SPP) investment, which was established with an investment of 4.2 million Euros, at its white cement plant in Valencia, Spain. The ceremony for the commissioning of the SPP was attended by Director General de Calidad y EducaciónAmbiental Jorge Blanco Coll, Mayor of Bunol Virginia SanzFerrus, S. GralCalidad Ambiental Jose Vicente Miro Bayarri, Çimsa CEO Umut Zenar, Çimsa Spain General Manager Onur Yazgan, ID Energy Group CEO Benito Puebla and senior executives of both companies.

The SPP, which was installed by ID Energy Group on a turnkey basis and an installed capacity of 7.2 MW, will generate approximately 12 GWh of electricity per year. All the energy produced in the SPP, which was installed with 11 thousand solar panels on a 100 thousand square meter area equaling the size of 14 football fields, will be used by Çimsa Cementos. The SPP investment will thus meet approximately 18 percent of the energy needs of the factory in Valencia. The amount of renewable energy produced (12 GWh/year) will be equivalent to 3,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year. This is the first ID Energy Group PPA project as an IPP in Spain.

Emphasizing that with the Buñol Plant they took over in 2021, Çimsa is among the world’s leading players in the field of white cement and that one out of every two products sold in Spain carries the Çimsa brand, Çimsa CEO Umut Zenar said the following in his speech at the ceremony:

“As Çimsa, the global brand of Sabancı Group, we are collecting the fruits of an important investment we realized with ID Energy Group at our Buñol Plant in Valencia today. As Çimsa, we focus on minimizing our environmental impact within the framework of our vision of doing business on a global scale by increasing our energy efficiency and renewable energy initiatives not only in Türkiye but also in our operations abroad. As of today, the renewable energy used in all our factories has reached 54 percent. The solar power plant we inaugurated today is a concrete example of these efforts. The amount of renewable energy generated by this power plant (12 GWh/year) will be equivalent to the electricity needs of 3,600 houses. This investment will enable us to optimize our business processes and take responsibility for a sustainable future with environmentally friendly practices”.
